The Wonder Of The Web

Matthew 5:15 - Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.

How many of those of us who are enjoying the magic of the computer uttered the words "I'd never have a computer!" "Too impersonal." "It takes up too much time." "Don't even know how to turn one on!"

How many of us swore we would for sure never, ever send out a "generic" Christmas letter to all our friends? Or, thought "the web" was only something in which one would be caught? What about all the times we rolled our eyes when someone started talking computer lingo or asked us if we had an e-mail address? Who, me? How many of us heard the phrase "try it, you'll like it", and just knew we wouldn't.

How many of us chuckle now, at the thought of the "never say never" phrase.

How many of us enjoy this particular web site and all it offers at the mere touch of a button or two. And who among us holds a mouse in their hand every day, having at one time thought the term only referred to a furry little creature.

How wonderful to read scriptures every day with new interpretations; to post a prayer, to see a prayer posted and read of prayers answered; to receive encouragement and support, and how truly wonderful to hear from relatives and friends, old and new.

These are some of the wonders of the web. How wonderful indeed.

Prayer: Our Father, we thank you for the "workings of the web", for those who put this site together, for our web editor who takes time with each and every one of us, for prayers posted and received. We thank you for prayers which have been answered quickly. We thank you Lord, for the "light" of this "candlestick", may it continue to "shine" in your glory. Through Jesus Christ our Lord, we pray. Amen.

A few months ago I posted a prayer line request to help our small bible study group grow. Our thanks to all who lifted their hearts in prayer with us. Our group of regular attendees has doubled in size, with others attending when they can. Thanks to our Lord through whom all things are possible.

A need for a financial blessing by Althea Ball 4/20/98
My family and I are about to lose our home to foreclosure. I would appreciate it if I could have someone pray with me for a financial blessing to prevent this from occuring.

need miracles 4/19/98
Please pray for my husband and myself. Normally, most of my life, I have spent praying for love and peace and wisdom to guide the world by the hand of God. But now, though God gave us many artistic talents, we are at a loss, on the verge of having no life in our future. For nearly 10 yrs, my husband has spoken of numerous friends and a secure home and life that he had built in the west. Because I trusted in God and in my husband, I fear that we've made many wrong decisions in those ten yrs, in which he was unable to connect with this "former life". In those yrs, we've struggled and faced starvation, knowing that something strange was going on (as I was never able to once contact one of his "friends" and he was never able to get back to this life as credit, telephone numbers and such would "disappear".) He earnestly doesn't know hwat happened, nor can he prove any of these things. It's like he was living in a world that no longer exists. His family doesn't even try to help him - instead, they want to force him into their bidding. Now, our dreams are dead and taken, and we've no where to turn for financial, moral or any other kind of help - we sit suffering and letting even our medical care go, because we can't afford it. We need miraculous help as soon as possible, and my husband's stubborn unwillingness and pride must be curbed, because in his pride of his past, he will not "lower" himself to support us with me by working with the community in which we are stuck. Also ask help that he may find his way to the light of God, and that God's light will come through him. I love him dearly, but I fear our future, and we need a miracle now. In all humility and sorrow, I beg God to help us - we are beyond helping ourselves, and have no other recourse, and I continue to pray although prayers have not been answered yet for about three or more years. At times, I have even asked for death, believing that it might be more merciful than what I've faced and am going through, but it seems that wasn't to happen. Please, in the name of Jesus, His son, pray for us.

Another Martyr: Pastor Cesar Humberto Lopez 4/19/98
Please pray for the people of El Salvador and the family of Cesar who was shot and killed as he arrived at Emmanuel Baptist Church this week following death threats. His 33 years of life with us was a blessing to all seeing him happily answering God's call and serving the people here and in the cause of peace, reconciliation and mediation in inter church work for IBE and Fraterpaz an ecumenical church group here. Please pray for his family and other pastors who served with him and all those who knew and loved Cesar.

Pray For Students 4/17/98
The term has ended at Knox College, among others. Students are seeking calls, evaluating their future, or perhaps preparing for summer courses, employment, or service. Please pray, especially for students seeking a call, and congregations considering them. Bob
