The Road To HappinessDevotional for Thursday, October 10, 1996 by Ken StrightMatthew 5:3-10 - Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth. Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled. Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy. Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God. Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God. Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Happiness is relational. Jesus takes time in the beatitudes to remind us
that the truly happy life, the truly blessed life comes when we find our
spirit connection -
justice forgiveness peacemaking peacekeeping perseverance in spite of persecution Happiness is to be found in the strangest of places - "Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you." Matthew 5:12 Such a strange happiness that can manifest itself in moments of misery and moments of celebration. Prayer: O God, this day may the joy of the Lord be our strength and happiness; may we sow happiness wherever we go and with whomever we meet; and may You give us opportunity to amend what we are and become what Christ would have us be. Amen. Ken Stright <kennethstright@yahoo.ca> E-mail This Devotional to a friend without subscribing them, or give a
