There Are No "Minor" (Little) Miracles

Devotional for Wednesday, October 16, 1996 by Bob Meyer

Matthew 8:26 - He replied, "You of little faith, why are you so afraid?" Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it was completely calm.

One of the greatest gifts given us by God, after the Gift of His Son, is the natural order of His creation. Our world is beautiful and awesome. The existence of "natural laws" (which are God's and we only imperfectly have discovered them) makes the world "work". It is never minor when His order is suspended, it only appears minor within the limitation of our understanding.

My father suffered a major stroke and it became necessary to move him to Florida. A friend of my brother was willing to fly them there but when I saw the plane my hopes were shattered for I knew we could not get him in. What happened next appeared to others to be a feat of human fortitude but I recognized it as a miracle when my father arose from the wheelchair and took steps (with surprisingly little help) onto the plane. You see, I am a physician and I knew what part of his brain was gone from the CT scan and such an act was "impossible". I praise God for this answer to prayer.

Prayer: Dear Lord, help us to understand that Your order is not to be changed but for Your purpose. Help us accept when miracles do not happen as well as to praise Your Name for those that do. Amen.
