Love Without Limits

Devotional for Thursday, December 26, 1996 by Ken Stright

Philippians 1:9 - And this is my prayer, that your love may overflow more and more.

There was a special on T.V. and during a certain scene, a man was asked: "What is the first gift of Christmas?" to which he responds, "I suppose it was a tie." The program went on to share how the first gift of Christmas is actually love, and proceeded to express the special love that can exist among people. That marvellous writer, Madeleine L'Engle spoke of this as the irrational season and wrote:

    This is the irrational season
When love blooms bright and wild.
Had Mary been filled with reason
There'd have been no room for the child.

Christmas is a love story or it is nothing.

    Love came down at Christmas,
    Love all lovely, love divine.
    Love was born at Christmas,
Star and angel gave the sign.

Prayer: God, our eyes are open to your gift of grace, your inexpressible gift of love. Ready us today for the gift of your son, our Saviour, born that we might live, resurrected that we might live again in your love and mercy. Amen.
