Don't Worry -- Be Happy

Devotional for Saturday, June 14, 1997 by Ken Stright

John 14:22,30 - [Jesus said:] "Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat, or about your body, what you will wear. For life is more than food, and the body more than clothing. Your Father knows you need them. Instead, strive for his kingdom, and these things will be given to you as well."

He came to me again after church and simply said "Luke 12". He's done this before and I know the code for a breakthrough in this man's life. He had experienced personal, health, and business failure and his life had seemed in ruins. But his faith refused to fail him, and the Bible spoke to him time and again in his need. He came close to thanking God for these calamities in his life because, through them, he found depths to himself and to his faith he never knew existed.

I don't wish worries for anyone but I do pray that even the most difficult of circumstances will be transformed through the sustaining power of faith.

Prayer: O Lord, support us all the day long in this troubled life until the shadows lengthen, the evening comes, the busy world is hushed, the fever of life is over, and our work is done. Then, Lord, in your mercy grant us a safe lodging, a holy rest, and peace at the last; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
