A Season For Sailing

Devotional for Thursday, June 26, 1997 by Ken Stright

Micah 6:8 - He has told you, O mortal, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?

OK. Why is the Church like a sailboat? Give up? Because so much energy goes in to keeping the thing repaired and so little time is left to do the activity it was made for.

When I talk about sailing, I simply mean the wonderful experience of feeling the winds of God on our face and moving in perfect harmony with that powerful unseen force called wind.

When we're talking about the church, I wonder if we may not have muddied the waters so well that we're not really certain what our main activity is anymore.

Our ancestors knew that our chief end was to glorify God and enjoy God. Do we?

Prayer: Spirit of God, blow fresh breezes into the sails of our souls that we may journey with you in joy, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
