You Are My Lord

Psalm 16:2 - I say to the Lord, "You are my Lord."Why do we meditate?
Dietrich Bonhoeffer answers it this way:
- Because I am a Christian. Therefore, every day in which I do not
penetrate more deeply into the knowledge of God's Word in Holy Scripture
is a lost day for me.
What do I want from my meditation?
We quote Bonhoeffer again:
- We want to rise up from our meditation in a different state from
which we sit down. We want to meet Christ in his word. We desire to hear
what it is that he wants to give us and teach us today. His fellowship,
his help, his guidance for the day through his Word - that is the goal.
Thus you begin the day freshly strengthened in your faith.
Now for the very slow, quiet, patient, advance from word to word, from sentence to sentence. I say to the Lord. This alone is our part of prayer. It is simply normal conversation. Relax! Whatever needs to be said just say it.
The next four words are central: You are my Lord There is an inexhaustible source of power in those words to transform our lives, renew our hopes, restore our souls and heal our hurts. Don't rush! Take a long pause! Let them sink in!
Prayer: Great and mysterious God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, you are my Lord. I wait for you. Speak to me! Walk with me! Be my teacher! Show me what you want me to do to-day and help me to do it well for you are my Lord. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.
