My God And My All

Devotional for Saturday, August 2, 1997 by Grant Muir

Then the Psalm writer explodes. "All the good things I have come from you. You, Lord, are all I have, and you give me all I need; my future is in your hands." Then the final shout, "How wonderful are your gifts to me; how good they are!" (Psalm 16:5-6) Wow!

Here is a story about St. Francis of Assisi who has been described as "the most faithful follower and perfect imitator of Jesus Christ that the world has ever seen." Some folk, determined to learn his secret in prayer, found a place to hide and listen to him in his devotions. All they heard was My God and my all.

Glory be to God the Father,
Glory be to God the Son,
Glory be to God the Spirit,
Great Jehovah, three in One!
Glory, Glory, Glory, Glory,
While eternal ages run!

Prayer: Sovereign Lord of creation and source of all perfect gifts, we raise high our hearts, minds and voice to you in adoration, wonder, love and praise.
Lord Jesus Christ, ruler of all things, lover of all humankind, have mercy upon us; lead us into ever greater devotion to you and into an ever growing compassion for one another.
Holy Spirit, Lord and giver of life, come live in us to enliven our faith, distribute your gifts, produce your fruit and make us effective workers for Jesus Christ our only Lord and Saviour, in whose name we pray. Amen.
