Let Your Light Shine

Devotional for Saturday, September 6, 1997 by Ken Stright

Matthew 5:14 - You are the light of the world. A city built on a hill cannot be hid. No one after lighting a lamp puts it under the bushel basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven.

Jesus talks a lot about the light. Hidden light is lost, useless to guide and expose and bring beauty. We are to be a light for the world, friends of Jesus who guide others through the darkness, expose sin and suffering, and bring beauty into the world by bringing the good news of Jesus Christ with us wherever we go. Let people see what you do, the good works that are part of a Christian's life, not so people will praise you and say what a wonderful person you are, but so that others may give glory to our Father in heaven.

Prayer: May we bring a little light to the darkness and a little sunshine into someone's life this day and, in that light, may you be seen more clearly and loved more dearly. Amen.
