Devotional for Monday, December 1, 1997 by Kaye Lockwood
Genesis 1:26-27 - Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, in our likeness." So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female he created them.Psalm 34:5 - Those who look to him are radiant; their faces are never covered with shame.
2 Corinthians 3:18 - And we, who with open faces reflect the Lord's glory, are being transformed into his likeness with ever increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.
There you have it, plain as anything. We bear the image of our Father-Creator. He means us to bear his likeness during our time on earth. Would anyone notice? Take our faces for example. Consider the influence we wield just with our faces. Without saying a word, we can approve or disapprove, encourage or discourage, accept or reject, notice or ignore. By our expression when we meet others, we confirm them, or cast them aside.
There are some people who make me feel invisible: We can all remember certain faces that have had an effect on us ... faces we have wanted to make smile, make show us approval, affection or amusement, or make relax. And then there are others who have made us feel tense, insecure, even afraid.
The Lord intended us to be lights, to show the face of Christ to those around us, to bear his image as we go about the business of living.
Prayer: Lord God, let the light of your countenance show through us to our fellow pilgrims on our journey this day. Amen.
