Rebels Without A Cause

Devotional for Friday, January 9, 1998 by Cassandra Wessel

Isaiah 48:8 - You have neither heard nor understood; from of old your ear has not been open. Well do I know how treacherous you are; you were called a rebel from birth.

When I was a teenager, James Dean acted in a movie about a teenager who was in open rebellion and became the icon of thousands of rebellious teens across the land. Today there are still people who are rebels without a cause, but there is a cause to their rebellion. It is called sin. We are all infected with it like some rampant anitbiotic-resistant strain of disease. The only thing which can cure it is a massive dose of the grace of God as experienced in Jesus Christ. Without the cure, it is fatal. With it, it is life everlasting. Which will it be for you? Life or death?

Prayer: Lord God, I know I have been a rebel from birth. I know I've always wanted my way or the highway. I know that that has led me nowhere. I ask that you forgive me, cleanse me from sin, and enable me to live a new life. I give my life into your caring hands. This I pray in Jesus' name. Amen.
