Divine Intervention
Devotional for Tuesday, June 30, 1998 by Kimberley Dubard
Psalm 91:9-12 - If you make the Most High your dwelling -- even the Lord, who is my refuge -- then no harm will befall you, no disaster will come near your tent. For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways; they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.
- Saturday night I was waiting for my son and his fiancée to
arrive for dinner. "I'll be there in fifteen minutes," he had said, and
he's trustworthy to believe he'd be home in fifteen minutes. I was
praying and praising God for this particular son and his fiancée.
Fifteen minutes became thirty, and I began to pray in the spirit. Then
the news came. "Mom, don't get excited but I've been in an accident.
Angela and I are okay. A drunk driver in a large Chevy custom van hit
three cars head on. I know at least one woman is dead. My truck is
totalled."
I went to the scene of the accident. Traffic was backed up two miles. I ran the last 3/4 of a mile to my son and Angela.
As I gazed at what was left of his 1997 red Ford Ranger, a very small truck, I thanked God over and over that he and Angela were safe, with only minor injuries. Angela's mother arrived at the scene shortly after I did. She also thanked God for the safety of our children. "Just this morning," she said, "I felt the need to pray extra for you both. Thank God that you are unhurt."
Now here's the part about divine intervention. Last evening he and Angela were telling me about the older Lincoln vehicle that slowed them down, causing them to be the third car struck instead of the second. Unfortunately the young mom in the second car, a small Ford Probe which took the hardest hit, did not survive the crash. No one has since seen the old Lincoln that slowed my son down. I choose to believe the old Lincoln was divine intervention, following the prayers of two believing mothers. I thank God for watching over them.
