A Round To-It

Devotional for Thursday, March 11, 1999 by Mary Daniel

Hebrews 10:36,37 - For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise. For yet a little while, and he that shall come will come, and not tarry. (KJV)

One day years ago, when we went to church, we were given a round circle with the words "To It" written on it. The minister explained that so many people really have good intentions, but they say they'll do something when they "get around to it". Well, he said he was just helping us out. He had given each of us a round "to-it" so we'd have one the next time we were asked to do something we'd otherwise have had to wait until we could get "around to it".

No doubt there've been times in our lives when, having prayed faithfully, seemingly without an answer, we wonder when God is going to get around to it... to us. Our need seems so great, we wonder why He doesn't see it; we wonder what He is putting before us. What could possibly be more important than what we are asking Him to do for us, for others? It is in these very times that He asks us to be patient, and to listen. He asks us to trust that He is listening, and that our prayers will be answered when it is the right time, and in a way which is right for us.

Perhaps we need to ask ourselves if the only time we talk to God is when we need something or when we get "around to it".

Prayer: Our Heavenly Father, may we be ever mindful to thank you for those things which are going right for us, as well as asking for changes for what's wrong. May we remember to give thanks for even one thing each day. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.
