The Donkey In The Snow

John 6:35,37 - And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger: and he that believeth on me shall never thirst. All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I shall in no wise cast out. (KJV)On a recent road trip into snow-filled country, I was somewhat distressed when I saw a little donkey hunkered down in the snow beside a big bale of hay. How cold and cruel it seemed that the little donkey be out there all alone. But was he?
He didn't look unhappy, in fact, he looked quite content. I realized he really had all he needed. Burrowed in the snow, he was warm. Beside him was all the food he could eat and more. I didn't see, but if there weren't water, the snow would provide. He was safe, for he was inside a fenced field. He hadn't been left out all alone with no food or means of moisture. I then seemed to remember having been told once that sometimes putting donkeys together led them to fight. My initial reaction was due to how I would feel if I were left all alone in a field in the snow.
I then thought how much we are like the little donkey in the snow. When we have Christ beside us, spiritually, we do not hunger or thirst; we are sustained.
Prayer: We thank you Father, for the shelter of your peace. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.
