Today's Technology - God's Creation

Devotional for Thursday, July 8, 1999 by Anne Russell

Genesis 1:1 - In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. (KJV)
James 1:16-17 - Don't be deceived, my dear brothers. Every good and perfect gift is from above. (NIV)

Think with me for a moment about today's scriptures, and today's technology. How we have advanced over the past few years! Earlier this year, we were planning to go to Jerusalem, and I had the opportunity to use a digital camera. It is really something. We tried it out, took pictures, then connected it up to the computer. There was no film -- just a little chip to capture the images. What a wonder! If we took a camera like this on our trip, I thought, we could take pictures of ourselves by the Sea of Galilee and e-mail them as post cards to all our friends, while we were right there. Then we got to discussing the limitations of the digital camera, and decided to take the 35 mm one with film.

What am I getting at? God created man, and all creation. He gave us a mind, and we act like we have a free will. Though man thinks he has designed these great and marvellous things (and he has), it is only because God has given him the skill, a mind to create. It is within God's gift of thinking that man thinks. Does his free will scare me? Not really, for God is in control. We should know that it is the Spirit of God that has created everything from the beginning of time to the very end.

Prayer: Lord, humble us when we get too puffed up, when we think that we alone have created, all by ourselves, the wonderful things of this world. Help us to know our limitations. For it is You who is Almighty, the Creator of all. Amen.
