The Key

When I started my new job, last September first, I was given three keys. One is a key to our building, a second is the key to the offices, and a third is a storage room key. After the first day, I decided to wear the two interior keys on a lace around my neck.

One day I forgot my keys and I soon discovered what a problem it is to work without keys. I could not return home easily. I borrowed keys each time I needed to get in and out of the mail room, photocopy room, and other offices. I have never forgotten my keys since that day.

God reminds me that although my office keys are essential, there is another key of greater importance. I must carry Christ in my heart when I am at work. It is important that I project a Christ-like attitude with my colleagues. It is equally significant that I allow the master builder to reshape and mould me in His image.

We installed two keyless locks at our home. We set the code, and everyone in our family has it memorized. I still carry a key in my purse, just in case the batteries ran out, and the door should fail to unlock at the touch of buttons. Similarly, I am reminded that I must carry Christ with me when I am at home. I need to learn to treat my family and friends in a Christ-like manner as well.

Prayer: God of today and tomorrow, You are the key to the present, as well as the future. Help us to appreciate the significance of the gift of salvation and to accept it readily. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
