A Plastic Revelation

Devotional for Wednesday, December 15, 1999 by Rosemary Hagedorn

1 Corinthians 13:12 - For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face; now I know in part, but then I shall know fully just as I also have been fully known. (NASB)

A few years ago, a piece of plastic, approximately 7" long, 2" wide and 1/8" thick, was circulated and sold everywhere. This piece of plastic had a solid background, and the forefront had tiny lines in the middle, going upwards, downwards, sideways, etc. These little lines, when you looked at them, did not make any sense. But when you concentrated on the background, these little lines seemed to join together and form the name "Jesus".

I was given this Jesus plaque as a gift. At first, I had a hard time trying to figure out what it said, but once I saw the name Jesus, every time I looked at the piece of plastic, I had no problem seeing His name over and over again.

As I contemplated this, I thought of how, once we "see" Jesus or recognize and believe who He is, we will always "see" Him. He will never leave us or forsake us, even though we sometimes forsake Him. He is always standing at our heart's door, waiting, gently calling us. "Come home," He says, "and see."

Prayer: Father, thank You for Your son, Jesus. Help us to listen. Help us to open our hearts to Him. And, finally, help us to "see" Him face to face. Amen.
