Breathe On Me With Your Breath Of Fire

Devotional for Sunday, May 13, 2001 by Heather Morton

Acts 2:2-4 - Suddenly there was a noise from the sky which sounded like a strong wind blowing, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. Then they saw what looked like tongues of fire which spread out and touched each person there. They were all filled with the Holy Spirit. (GNB)

In 1998, our small rural church was forced to close. That was a difficult time for us spiritually, as we mourned the loss of our church and sought a new church family. Then in January 2000, we were welcomed into Glencoe Presbyterian Church. It was a time of renewed faith.

About the same time, a song-writing contest was introduced with the FLAMES initiative. It was the perfect opportunity for me to express my joy at having been welcomed into a new church family.

God's ways are mysterious to us. Even in our own despair, He sees purpose. If we move when His Spirit touches us, all things are possible.

      Breathe On Me With Your Breath Of Fire

    Father, touch my heart with Your spirit.
    Father, touch my soul with Your warmth.
    Fill my life with Your strength and Your glory.
    Breathe on me with Your breath of fire.

    Water wash away my sin;
    Hope above all hope.
    Wind, Your breath, blow down on me,
    Father, from above.

    Love to spread the joy in my heart.
    Strength to lift me up.
    Fire to warm the cold of my soul.
    Father, burn me up.

Prayer: Father, fill our lives with Your strength and glory. Touch us with Your breath. Warm our cold souls. Burn in our hearts. Fill us with Your love. Amen.
