The Conversation
Devotional for Saturday, April 27, 2002 by Rosemary Hagedorn
"Guess who called today!" my husband excitedly asked me upon my arrival home from work. Names and faces flashed through my mind instantly. "It was Sierra," my husband said. "She wanted to talk to Magga [her name for grandmother], and I told her that you were working today."Sierra, our first grandchild, is now 2 1/2 years old. She has discovered a new toy, the telephone. Of course, I immediately made my way towards the telephone and pressed number one on the speed-dial (my oldest daughter's telephone number). My daughter answered the phone. "May I speak with Sierra, please?" I said. In the background, I could hear my daughter calling Sierra and telling her that the phone call was for her.
Upon identifying myself, Sierra excitedly said, "Hi, Magga!" She talked and talked and talked. I could only make out a couple of words, and sometimes I just trustingly gave my approval or said "yes", and asked a question here and there. At one point in time, she was trying to show me something, because I heard her say into the phone, "Look, Magga!" Her little mind does not comprehend the complexity of how a telephone really works, and, I must admit, neither do I. She continued to talk, and trusted that I saw and understood all that she was telling me and showing me.
After I said my goodbyes and "I love you lots and lots," I thought about our conversation and the conversations we have with our heavenly Father.
Are we excited and eager to talk to God on a daily basis? Do we believe that He hears us? Do we trust Him completely as a little child trusts?
Psalm 5:1-3 - Give ear to my words, O Lord, consider my groaning. Heed the sound of my cry for help, my King and my God, for to You I pray. In the morning, O Lord, You will hear my voice; in the morning I will order my prayer to You and eagerly watch. (NASB)

Prayer: Father, we thank You for always being near. You listen patiently when we go on and on about something and You hear us. You grant us what we need, not what we want. You are delighted when we call upon Your name. Amen.
