Another Pair Of Eyes

Devotional for Tuesday, June 18, 2002 by Mary Jane Hanson

Psalm 11:4 - The Lord is in his holy temple; he has his throne in heaven. He watches people everywhere and knows what they are doing. (GNB)

Part of my work as Submissions Editor for the Daily involves working with our writers to improve their submissions and ensure that they follow the "Writing Guidelines".

One day, I had been working with two separate writers, and I suggested revisions for each of their submissions. That evening, within a short period of time, I received two separate e-mail messages from the writers. Both writers indicated the same thing to me. The meaning was clear, although the wording was slightly different. One of the writers stated that it was good to have "another pair of eyes" looking over the submissions. Each of them indicated that their submission was lacking something, and that I had been able to look it over and tell them what was missing. The missing part, a spiritual application for others, was "just what was needed" to improve the submission.

I feel the same way that our writers do, when I turn the submissions over to the Devotional Editor, and they are seen by yet "another pair of eyes". Often I have overlooked something, and the Devotional Editor knows "just what is needed" from the writers to improve the submission further.

This experience, and others like it, can serve to remind us that we all have "another pair of eyes" watching over us and guiding us daily. Of course, these are the eyes of our loving God, and we can say with certainty that this is "just what is needed".

Prayer: God, we praise you that you do have your eyes upon us. We know that, since you watch over us, you will be ready to assist us when we need help. We know that your help is just what we need. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.
