The Yellow Rabbit

Devotional for Wednesday, April 23, 2003 by Rosemary Hagedorn

Philippians 3:20-21 - For our citizenship is in heaven, from which also we eagerly wait for a Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ; who will transform the body of our humble state into conformity with the body of His glory, by the exertion of the power that He has even to subject all things to Himself. (NASB)

Once upon a time, a long time ago, there was a little rabbit named Hasi. It was bright yellow, and its fur was as soft as a cotton ball. Hasi lived with a little girl, who loved it very much. It went to slumber parties, on shopping trips, on vacations, and even overseas; wherever the little girl went, Hasi would tag along. Most of all, Hasi was loved and cuddled every day. The little girl could not fall asleep unless Hasi was safely tucked under her chin. And if, for some unknown reason, Hasi was not in its usual spot, the little girl would frantically search and search until the rabbit was found.

Over the years, as the little girl grew, the rabbit grew older also.

The bright yellow colour faded. The fur became matted and thin. The rabbit's neck hung limp on one side. Hasi was a stuffed animal. We had to replace the neck, add some stuffing here and there, and practically enclose it into a whole new body. How true this also holds for our earthly bodies.

As I think about my daughter's stuffed rabbit getting a new body, I am reminded of God's promise to us, His children, about getting a brand-new body, just like Jesus', one day!

Prayer: Thank You, God, for Your promise to us to transform our worn bodies into bodies of glory. Amen.
