The Needed Connection

If my friend, Jim, had had any sense, he would have said "no" when I first asked him if he wanted to make some extra money helping me wash down sidewalks, stairs, and walls at one of the students' apartment complexes on campus. I can't fault Jim for his willingness to help me. First of all, he is so good-natured and willing to do anything for anyone; and, well, if someone offered me a job, even if it paid just a few bucks, I would say, "Sure."

It started out pretty well, as we hit the first section. Jim washed the steps down as I got the trash, picked up litter from the yard, and swept down some spider webs. We moved over to the next section. I was standing in the laundry room, when I felt water spewing through the open window. "Hey!"

I looked through the door. Jim was standing at the faucet, with water spewing out of it, shooting everywhere, hitting the car parked in front of the building, but, more than anything, drowning him. We had to put a special tool on the faucet to turn the water on, but every time he tried to put the tool back on the faucet, water seemed to drench him in the face. The outside faucets have special attachments used to turn the water on and off. Jim had turned this attachment a little too hard. When he did, he jerked it out, along with the connector to the faucet. Without the connector in place, the water had nothing that directed it to the right path.

Today's Scripture states that no one comes to the Father except through Jesus. Unfortunately, if we are left to our own devices, we will continue to be like water pouring out of the faucet, aimlessly and endlessly, until we find Jesus to direct us on the right path, and connect us to our God.

John 1:2-5 - He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it. (NIV)

Prayer: Dear God, we ask You for forgiveness for the times when we loosen our ties to the connection You sent to us, Jesus, and try to go our own ways. Keep reminding us, Father, how very important it is to have Him in our lives. Amen.
