Handmade Bath Salts

Devotional for Thursday, December 2, 2004 by Brenda Wood

Luke 2:8-9 - And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid. (KJV)

Mix one tablespoon of glycerine, a drop or two of perfume or cologne, and a smidge of food colouring in a non-plastic bowl. Stir the Epsom salts while adding this concoction. Mix well and store in glass jars. Tie with ribbon and present to friends! That's my friend's recipe for her handmade bath salts.

Who would think that this odd assortment of items would make such a wonderful bath substance? It sounds too good to be true, unless you are a chemist, or a recipient, like me, who has tried the final result!

John 1:14 - And Christ became a human being and lived here on earth among us and was full of loving forgiveness and truth. (TLB)

The Great Chemist, God, mixed an odd assortment of shepherds and angels, with His Son, Jesus, who came to earth as a baby. As time went on, He stirred in the ingredients of death on a cross and Christ's resurrection from the dead to create forgiveness for each of us. It sounds too good to be true -- unless, like me, you have tried the final result! Have you?

Prayer: Lord, how can we thank You for your wonderful handmade recipe for forgiveness and a renewed life? Only You could create and give us a recipe so wonderful that it would bathe clean from the inside out every one of us who receives Your gift. In Jesus' name. Amen.
