A New Body

Devotional for Tuesday, May 17, 2005 by Shirley Dobie

Acts 2:26 - Therefore my heart is glad and my tongue rejoices; my body also will live in hope. (NIV)

Dolly just got loved to shreds. She had belonged to my daughter, and now her daughter loved her, but alas, she was falling apart. It was time for Grandma to put a new body on her, so she came for a short stay.

At about the same time, one of my friends had a stroke. Brianne heard me mention that my friend, who had the same name as dolly, could talk now. Brianne was so excited to think that her dolly could talk. We had to explain that Grandma had limitations. Having a new cloth body restored dolly to her original state but that was all.

We know someone Who is so wonderful that He made the dumb to speak: our Saviour.

Volunteering for the visually impaired, I've learned that if someone has not had sight before the age of six, his brain cannot decipher visual images, even were he to receive sight later. Jesus healed a man blind from birth and gave him the ability to know what he was seeing, as well. What a wonderful hope for the aging and handicapped, or folk with chronic illnesses! Philippians 3:21 says of Jesus Christ: "Who, by the power that enables him to bring everything under his control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious body." (NIV)

Prayer: Father, bless the helpless ones with patience and endurance, until our earthly bodies are replaced by You. Thank You for this hope. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
