Personal Zones

Devotional for Tuesday, January 31, 2006 by Ivie Bozeman

Psalm 46:1-2 - God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea. (NIV)

Psalm 46:10 - Be still and know that I am God. (NIV)

Often I struggle to figure out the solution to a problem with no success. Then at night, I awake from a sound sleep with the solution so clear in my mind, and I wonder why I couldn't figure it out. I rise quickly and write it down so I can remember it the next morning.

Sometimes, God wants us to stop struggling in our busyness and rushing, and know that He is God. Like people working on a busy highway, we raise our flags "Caution -- crew working", and God cannot get through our self-imposed zones to give us the help we need. When, in the darkness of night and the sweet rest of sleep, the barriers are removed, He gives us the answers we've been seeking.

God is always with us, but sometimes our channels are blocked. It is up to us to be still and know that He is with us, giving strength to know and to endure, "though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea". No matter how large our problems may be, they do not last forever. A solution of some kind always comes, maybe not in the way we visualized, but in God's way, which ultimately proves to be the better way.

Prayer: Lord, thank You for Your patience in waiting for us to quiet our systems down and let You come in and solve our problems. We look forward to that day when all our strife and worry will give way to perfect, stress-free, eternal life with You. Amen.
