Leaked Memos

Devotional for Saturday, February 10, 2007 by Brenda Wood

Genesis 3:1 - The serpent was clever, more clever than any wild animal God had made. He spoke to the Woman. "Do I understand that God told you not to eat from any tree in the garden?" (MSG)

Genesis 3:13b - "The serpent deceived me, and I ate." (NASB)

In Al Gore's disturbing documentary, An Inconvenient Truth, he quotes two leaked memos. One states, "Reposition global warming as theory rather than fact." The other says, "Doubt is our product, since it is the best means of creating controversy in the public's mind."

Different memos. Same goal. Make people doubt the truth. Scientists know that global warming is a serious threat to our very being. We can doubt that it is happening, but that won't stop it from continuing. Satan had the original blueprint for this type of plan. His leaked memo is in Genesis 3:1, and the result follows in 3:13b. Nothing has changed. His purpose was and still is to separate us from truth.

We can believe that cigarettes are good for us and that trans-fats are healthy. We might even believe that we can drive safely while impaired. We can tell ourselves that there is no God. We can say that hell is a figment of the imagination. We can believe what we like, but the following quotation should make us reconsider all of the above:

"Don't believe in hell? Well, how convenient. That won't stop you from going there." (Joyce Meyer)

Prayer: Lord, we need truth. Give us truth in every area of our life, and help us to believe it and then to act on it. For Christ's sake, we pray. Amen.
