Our Great Companion

Devotional for Monday, June 18, 2007 by Julie Bowles

Genesis 2:18 - And the Lord God said, It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a companion who will help him. (NLT)

After a recent surgery, I was not able to drive for six weeks, so between my husband, my son, and a friend, I was driven to do my errands. Then came the day for my first driving trip. To get some groceries, I made the trip alone. After getting my groceries, I came back to the car and proceeded to get in the passenger's side. After putting on my seatbelt, I began to wonder where the driver of the car was. It was then that I realized that I was the driver and not the companion on this trip. I chuckled to myself, got out, and went around to the driver's side of the car, keeping a watchful eye out for anyone who might have seen and recognized me.

As I drove home, I began to realize that I have the greatest companion in the world: Jesus. No matter where we go, He is always with us.

Hebrews 13:5 - For He Himself has said, "I will never leave you nor forsake you." (NKJV)

Prayer: Dear Jesus, thank You for the great and faithful companion that You are to each of us. Help us to remember this always, and encourage us to share this with the people whom we meet in our day. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
