Victim? Or Victor!Devotional for Friday, November 9, 2007 by Lauretta BalderstonWe live in a world where fear seems to be the motivator! Terrorism, bomb threats, super bugs -- the list goes on. We are bombarded with fears in the news, the Internet, and the newspapers. No wonder there are days when we seem to be confused and stressed. Depression is common in seniors and children. No one is immune to fear.
Solomon knew that fear would cross all generations from his day to ours.
He gave us wise counsel for daily living:
We need not be a victim of fear! Jesus said: Nothing and no-one need keep us from living for God now and for eternity. We can be liberated from all fears by an ever-present, loving, and living God Who will never leave us nor forsake us. Joshua 1:9 - Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go. (NIV)
Fear of loneliness, isolation, sickness, finances, even death, must not
cause us to fear about today or the future. We have God's promise that
He is never going to leave us on our own. He will walk before us, and
when the way gets scary, He will hold us up so we can keep strong in
Him. He promised -- for always!
We can choose to be a victor -- not a victim -- and allow God to be our
guide, claiming these words: Prayer: Dear God, we take You at Your word that whatever happens today is in your hands. Thank You for loving us and keeping us safe in You. In Jesus' name. Amen.
