Immunity
Devotional for Thursday, January 24, 2008 by Judy Miller
Jeremiah 1:17-19 - Get up and get dressed. Go out, and tell them whatever I tell you to say. Do not be afraid of them, or I will make you look foolish in front of them. For see, today I have made you immune to their attacks. You are strong like a fortified city that cannot be captured, like an iron pillar or bronze wall. None of the kings, officials, priests, or people of Judah will be able to stand against you. They will try, but they will fail. For I am with you, and I will take care of you. I, the Lord, have spoken! (NLT)When I read these few verses, I was going through a tough time -- a time of being verbally attacked by others. Words do hurt. I was hurting and afraid and angry. I was feeling sorry for myself, feeling like a victim, and wallowing in my circumstances. The assurance I received from these verses was so profound. I obeyed God and got up and got dressed, figuratively. I embraced the command of God not to be afraid. I claimed the truth that God had made me immune to the verbal attacks of others on me. He assured me that I was strong, and that others would fail when they tried to stand against me. Why are all these things true? Because it was the Lord Who spoke them to me. Praise His name.
There are so many truths in the Lord's Word. So often, just when we need to hear a truth from God, He directs our devotions right to the very passage that we need to read, that we need to embrace, and that we need to accept.
Prayer: Lord God in heaven, You are so wonderful. You know what we are going through each minute. You know what we will go through in the next minute. Help us to read Your Word daily, with intent to hear from You. Thank You for Your words of assurance and comfort. Amen.
