Desperate To Know God

Devotional for Friday, February 15, 2008 by Kirsti Sipila

Psalm 15:1 - O Lord, who may abide in your tent? Who may dwell on your holy hill? (NRSV)

A phone call from a friend lasted for hours. Once the light talk was over, we had a deeper quest to talk about our situations. Confessing our concern for family and friends filled our conversation.

My friend spoke words I had only begun to form. She had insight that I would learn from.

We agreed to keep on praying for those we had named. There is a dire need in some family situations. O, Lord, lift up Your people to Your tent on the holy hill! Let them find a dwelling place by Your side and know Your presence.

We sighed together and wished well for all, with deliverance and peace. We agreed on God's promises and trusted Him to have favour and produce an effect in the lives we had named and those unknown to us in similar situations. Neither of us is of glamorous speech nor of many words, but we stand on the promises of God to hear our requests.

God is not one to give up on His faithful. This is our hope.

Philippians 1:6 - [I am] confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus. (NIV)

Those who seek the Lord, the Lord will seek. Those who knock at His door will find the door opening. I also have to believe that those who ask, the Lord will answer. Bless the Lord! Bless His name, which is above all names! His good counsel is for all people and for all things. His voice speaks and reveals His love -- the love that is beyond measure.

Psalm 37:7a - Be still before the Lord, and wait patiently for him. (NRSV)

Prayer: One for all, Lord and Saviour! You know our names and You know all about us. Nothing is hidden from You. Give us the confidence to know that You know. Amen.
