Immanuel

Devotional for Monday, December 22, 2008 by Rosemary Renninson

Isaiah 7:14 - Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel. (KJV)

The Christmas season may be the busiest time of year for many of us, involving much time in planning, preparation, working, and spending money. If we are very blessed, it may also involve family and friends gathering for feasting and gift-giving, as well as attendance at worship. This is the way many celebrate the holiday season, and remember the birth of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Amidst all of our doing, giving, and loving, let us use some of our time to love and worship the giver of all the good things and happenings in our lives. Let us remember, "Unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given." (Isaiah 9:6 KJV)

Immanuel means "God with us." Jesus was God in human form -- our Lord and our God, yet our greatest friend and our eternal brother. Let us take the time to adore Him, to worship Him, to bow down humbly before Him with gratitude in our hearts. His miraculous conception was something unheard of before and unparalleled since. Our Saviour, although truly a man, was the Holy One of God.

As we bow, may we be willing that He be formed in us to make us like Himself. Let us continue to worship Him as we live this coming year to our fullest potential and to the fullness of our Lord's purposes, for His glory and splendour through all the earth.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, help us be willing to first reach out to You each day in love, worship, praise, and thanksgiving, before we do anything else. Amen.
