Complete SilenceDevotional for Thursday, July 8, 2010 by Judy MillerPsalm 46:10 - Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth. (KJV)How I love summertime! I love the long days. I love the sunshine. I love flowers. I love the green trees. I love the lawns. I love watching children play in sprinklers on hot days. I love hot days. Often, along with hot days come thunderstorms. Some can be pretty ferocious, with thunder following the lightning very quickly -- one strike after another with rain pouring down. Sometimes, when we see a fork of lightning, it is so close that we can hear the thunder crash at the same time. Other times, after we have seen the lightning strike far away and anticipate the roll of thunder, we are often amazed to experience complete silence for a few seconds. We are standing still, listening, and waiting, because we know that the thunder is coming. We know that thunder follows lightning -- that is God's plan. We can see God's hand in these storms. This experience has reminded me of today's verse. It is good to stand still so that we may know that God is who He says He is. Let's remember to slow down, be still, and listen. God has so many things to tell us that we don't know yet. Prayer: Nature is so amazing, God. It so speaks of You and how You have control of the universe. Help us to see You daily in our lives. Amen.
