Watchful EyeDevotional for Wednesday, September 1, 2010 by Julie BowlesThey say that once you are a Mom you are always a Mom. We recently had a campsite that was right on the beach. As I sat in my campsite, I found myself with eyes toward the water. When I realized what I was actually doing, I was quite surprised. I became aware that my eyes were constantly scanning the water and beach area, actually keeping track and counting the heads of other people's children, children that were not mine, who were in the water!Even though the children in the water were not mine, as a Mom, I still have a role to keep watch of all that is going on around me. Spiritually, I also exercise the gift of discernment and am ready to act upon the Holy Spirit's prompting to me. Deuteronomy 4:9 - Just make sure you stay alert. Keep close watch over yourselves. Don't forget anything of what you've seen. Don't let you heart wander off. Stay vigilant as long as you live. Teach what you've seen and heard to your children and grandchildren. (MSG) This Scripture says that we are not only to be aware but also to be a teacher to others. How that works in my life is by the example that I set and how I speak, not only to our own boys but also to others that I meet while camping, as well as at home. Our Father in heaven also keeps a watchful eye over us; we are never out of His view. Deuteronomy 2:7 - The Lord your God has blessed you in all the work of your hands. He has watched over your journey through this vast desert. These forty years the Lord your God has been with you, and you have not lacked anything. (NIV) Do we really trust that God has His watchful eye over everything that we're concerned about?
And I know He watches me.
